As the eurozone continues a wild economic roller-coaster ride and the U.S. bounces between fiscal cliffs and debt ceilings, savvy business people are looking to new and often unfamiliar markets for potential new revenue. While opportunities abound from Accra to Zhengzhou, it is India (with a population of 1.2 billion) that is on almost everyone’s list.
And with Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s November 2012 visit to the country, and B.C. Premier Christy Clark’s visit a year earlier, Canada is redoubling efforts to deepen all-important trade links with India. Indeed, Stewart Beck, the Canadian High Commissioner in India, reports that his office is working closely with 500 Canadian firms — double the figure of a couple of years ago.
