On May 14, 2013, amendments were made to the BC Business Corporations Act, legislating the first hybrid social enterprise structure in Canada: the Community Contribution Company, or C3 for short. The option became available for use in July 2013. C3s are a new business model for British Columbians who value a balance of social responsibility and profit. Designed to bridge the gap between for-profit businesses and non-profit enterprises, this innovative business model is the first of its kind in Canada, responding to an emerging demand for socially focused investment options.

On October 3, join Jim Fletcher, one of the chief architects of the C3 structure. Jim was a co-Chair of the Premier's Advisory Council on Social Innovation, which produced 11 recommendations in April 2012, one of which was to provide for C3s in the BC Business Corporations Act. The Council also advised the Government on the detailed regulations. Jim will provide first hand background on the inspiration for C3s, their benefits and potential for future businesses. He will also provide an update on C3 incorporations since their inauguration in July 2013.
