Background
Social enterprises are businesses operated by non-profit organizations for the blended purpose of generating income through sales and providing a community service.
Social enterprises operate in the full range of businesses: retail, wholesale, manufacturing, business-to-business services like catering and janitorial, recycling, arts, etc. They meet important community needs including employment for youth-at-risk, employment for persons with disabilities, performing arts and galleries, environmental causes, home care services for seniors, etc.
As businesses operating in the market place social enterprises face the same issues that every business deals with: financing, production systems, customer service, marketing, human resources, etc.
