The Business Development Officer identifies and develops new opportunities for three revenue-funded programs within Community Engagement Programs in Continuing Studies at SFU:
- 7th Floor Media, which does development and consulting related to new media (online, on-site and mobile interactive digital media) for a wide range of clients with educational and/or cultural mandates (broadly defined);
- The Research and Evaluation Unit, which does formative and summative, quantitative and qualitative research and evaluation for clients that have or are planning formal or informal educational, social/cultural and community development initiatives; and
- The Community Education Program, the mandate of which is to support positive social change for socially excluded, marginalized, or disadvantaged individuals and communities by creating access to education and other resources for non-traditional learners.
Responsibilities
The Business Development Officer is responsible for: opening up new markets and developing relationships for the Programs with new funding organizations, clients, and partners; making presentations at the executive level to funding agencies, private foundations, and prospective corporate, government and NGO clients; identifying and developing opportunities that are consistent with the mandate and expertise of the Programs; and producing expressions of interest and proposals (both unsolicited and response to requests) in consultation with experts within the Programs. The Business Development Officer reports to the Chair of Community Engagement Programs in Continuing Studies.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to generate revenue in a grant-funded environment
- Track record of working with corporate, public sector, NGO, and philanthropic organizations
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills
- Able to work independently
- University Degree (or equivalent combination of education & experience)
- Strong network at a high level in one or more of the following sectors: Education, Culture, Health, Community Development, Social Services
