Independent World Television - The Real News is a non-profit news and documentary network focused on providing independent and uncompromising journalism.

Collaborating with courageous journalists around the globe, in 2007 IWT launched The Real News, a daily world news hour for television and a 24/7 video news service on the Internet. The Real News investigates reports and debates stories about the critical issues of our times.  With a current annual operating budget of approximately two million dollars, it is a member-supported entity and does not accept sponsorship dollars, advertising, government or corporate funding.

As Director of Development you will take ownership of the creation and implementation of the US/Canada development strategy related to individual giving; major gifts; personal,  private and public foundations. 

You will lead the Canada/US Development in implementing a fundraising strategy with the cooperation with the senior staff and consultants at the Network, eventually growing its capacity to raise 6-8 million dollars annually to ensure that IWT's flagship news program, The Real News Daily, meets its budget requirements.   A large portion of this budget will be raised in the United States.

The position requires a high degree of creativity, out of the box thinking and entrepreneurialism and excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Qualification Specification

Demonstrated achievements with 7-10 years experience in fundraising with significant success and specialization in major gift, foundation, E-philanthropy and direct mail fundraising.

Previous Experience

Essential

• 7-10 years of development experience including a minimum of four at a senior management level
• Accountability to senior management and Board for Development department/team results
• Experience in developing and implementing long term fundraising strategies
• Exceptional writing skills especially in foundation applications
• Ability to balance: competing priorities, complex situations and tight deadlines while driving to meeting stretch targets
• Demonstrated results in Major Gift Solicitation(Individuals, Private and Public Foundations), E-Philanthropy and Direct Mail and Cause-Related-Marketing
• Demonstrated technical literacy in the Microsoft suite of software, as well as various development database software programmes (Salesforce, Raiser's Edge)
• A strong commitment to the mission of The Real News and its unique identity
• A high level of personal motivation, integrity, and initiative

Desirable

• Relevant post-graduate qualification
• Fundraising qualification, e.g., Association of Fundraising Professionals (CFRE)

General Terms and Conditions

• Hours: Standard and flexible hours
• Potential for Extensive traveling
• Annual salary: $75,000 - $110,000 to be based on experience
• Location of position is negotiable, offices are currently located in Toronto, with satellite locations in Washington and New York
