Our mission is to make green mainstream by making it easy and fun for people to try out the best green stuff their city has to offer. Our vision is to advance the green movement on a city-by-city basis across North America. We’re launching our first ethicalDeal in our hometown of Vancouver this month!

We are hiring team members who want to get in on the ground floor and are keenly interested in making it easy for people to lead a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. We are looking for a developer who has substantial experience developing web applications (in PHP and/or Python) and who is interested in joining a business and product at its initial stage.

As a key member of our small, but growing product team, you will be responsible for hard coding, managing, and expanding the back end functionality of ethicalDeal’s website. Working closely with our design, customer service and marketing team members to develop and create a continually better customer experience, your role will be expansive and intensive. 

Responsibilities:

• Lead: Own significant portions of the product with increasing leadership as the business scales
• Engineer: Architect, develop and maintain the product
• Agile: Work within and help run an agile production process that focuses on the customer first
• Scale: Build or enhance the product to scale with the business as we go from 1 user to millions
• Innovate: Play a key role in technology innovation, working on diverse projects from augmented reality to mobile applications

We are looking for someone who shares our vision, has an entrepreneurial spirit, a strong work ethic and is keen to be part of a start-up environment. If you are a motivated self-starter with strong interpersonal skills, and enjoy working in an agile and iterative development environment, then you’ll fit right in.

Skills

• 3+ years of demonstrated web development experience
• Strong working ability in PHP
• Knowledge of MVC frameworks (CakePHP)
• Strong working knowledge of MySQL and building scalable databases
• Familiarity with SEO, landing page optimization, A/B Testing, web analytics
• Experience with Python an asset but not necessary
• Experience using open source software and services
• Basic sysadmin skills for linux-based deployments
• E-commerce experience is preferred, but not necessary
• Ability to work independently or with a team
• Have a penchant for test-driven development
• Strong project management and communication skills
• Content working beyond regular business hours to discover truly innovative ideas
• Dedicated to constant refinement and improvement in every task you take on

Compensation and benefits commensurate with experience, but likely a combination of cash and equity. A government program that supports innovative tech startups funds the cash portion.
