We are seeking a dynamic professional to join us as Manager of Development and Philanthropic Services.

Reporting to the Executive Director, and serving as part of the management group, the Manager of Development and Philanthropic Services leads strategies related to the delivery of enhanced philanthropic services and growth of endowed assets held at Vancity Community Foundation.

Responsiblities 

Fund Development
  • Manages the planning, execution and measurement of development strategies to increase the asset base and permanent capacity of Vancity Community Foundation to advance its mission.
  • Develops and executes strategies to encourage progressive philanthropy in the Vancity membership base of more than 380,000 individuals and organizations in BC.
  • Develops communication materials and makes presentations for prospective donors, and maintains excellent working and referral relationships with professionals in allied fields.
  • Provides leadership within the organization and at local or national levels to advance our mission and to promote progressive philanthropy, as well as remaining informed of best practices in the sector.
Donor Services
  • Oversees named funds and stewardship for a broad range of donor relationships.
  • Ensures high levels of service and engagement with donors and advisors, including communication, advice, administration, legal or technical due diligence, compliance with charitable requirements, and ongoing relationship management.
  • Provides technical assistance or advocacy support to donors or community partners within areas of expertise.
Management and Administration
  • Establishes and maintains written policies, procedures and internal systems associated with acceptance, management and reporting of endowed or contributed funds.
  • Connects with program staff in maximizing the impact of resources available from named fund revenues or in leveraging other assets of the Foundation.
  • Oversees staff in roles related to administration of named funds and donor relations, as well as any contract personnel or professional advisors (especially legal counsel) as necessary.

Qualifications

To excel in this position, you will need a minimum of five years experience in a senior development role, with an emphasis on major gifts or planned giving. You must possess advanced knowledge of:

  • Resource development and donor relationship building, with the demonstrated ability to develop leading edge strategies in these areas
  • Best practices in planned giving and philanthropic services for donors
  • Trends, regulations and ethics of the charitable sector in Canada

You also have:

  • Exemplary written, oral and electronic and web-based communication skills, including the demonstrated ability to develop effective communications strategies
  • Superior strategic planning skills, including the demonstrated ability to translate strategy into tactical resource development plans and communications materials
  • A deep understanding of ethical practice in fundraising and donor relations
  • Strong analytical skills and conscientious attention to detail
  • Excellent negotiating skills and ability to making compelling presentations in a variety of environments
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diversity of community members, groups and stakeholders
  • CFRE designation would be considered an asset, as would direct experience in a foundation or grant making environment. Experience with relational databases and information systems will also be useful in this role.
