Tides is currently seeking a full-time Program Officer who will provide support for ongoing strategic program development, manage relationships with key institutional donors and partners, and implement our grant making programs and services.  The Program Officer will report to the Program Director.  The successful candidate will bring demonstrated knowledge of environmental and/or social justice issues, as well as strong analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in strategic and program planning in environmental, social justice program areas;
  • Manage and develop relationships, agreements and proposals to support collaborations with institutional clients and major initiative partners;
  • Manage the reporting process for all grants received from institutional clients;
  • Carry out Tides Canada grant-making processes;
  • Provide technical assistance to grantees and projects in the development of proposals and reports;
  • Undertake research necessary to the development of grant-making strategies and program activities;
  • Create and manage clients’ portfolio of work, including program files, agreements, reports and databases;
  • Participate in collaborative efforts involving other funders and community groups to further program goals;
  • Participate in the development and implementation of evaluation processes;
  • Contribute to the development of Tides Canada’s policies and procedures in the program area;.
  • Provide program advice and information for internal and external stakeholders; and
  • Participate in conferences, seminars and other sector initiatives as a representative of Tides Canada and to maintain and enhance expertise and professional development.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in social or environmental sciences, administration, business or related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience;
  • Substantive understanding of one or more relevant program areas (environmental, social justice, or non-profit/charitable sector issues);
  • Several years of experience with institutional grant-making (ideally from the perspective of funder);
  • Good understanding of the charitable regulatory and operating environment;
  • Exceptional analytical skills and strong attention to detail;
  • Strong computer skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (familiarity with Navision or other client relationship management programs an asset);
  • Exceptional client service, interpersonal and written and oral communication skills;
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently;
  • Demonstrated maturity and ability to manage critical information with professionalism and discretion; and
  • Demonstrated flexibility and initiative.
Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
