POSITION SUMMARY
ForestEthics’ climate campaign focuses on mobilizing public opposition to the Tar Sands to create pressure for reforming Canadian climate and energy policy. In 2010, the campaign will prioritize the Tar Sands, stopping the Gateway pipeline and developing strong national climate policies. This position will be based in Vancouver, with the consideration for Toronto.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Lead the strategic development and direction of the Canadian Tar Sands campaign by
working with the Climate Director and other staff in the development of winning
campaign strategies and in implementing campaign plans;
• Undertake media relations and work with the communications team to develop public
outreach strategies;
• Manage relationships with ENGO allies, energy corporations, First Nations, federal and provincial governments regarding our work on Tar Sands and climate issues;
• Oversee staff and contractors for the Canadian Tar Sands campaign;
• Ensure connection between Canadian and US Tar Sands campaign work, and the climate program;
• Participate in ForestEthics staff meetings, organizational planning and training sessions as necessary; and
• Manage the annual Canadian Tar Sands campaign budget.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
• At least three years of relevant work experience such as environmental campaigning,
organizing, politics, advocacy or media, with demonstrated tangible results
• Working knowledge of climate change and energy issues; degree an asset
• Excellent analytical and strategic thinking capabilities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent project management, time management and interpersonal skills
• Must be extremely well organized, able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines, and work independently and as part of a team
• Proficiency in basic computer applications
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
• Interest in and passion for the mission of ForestEthics
